PURPOSE/AIM

The purpose of this exhibit is to demonstrate the complex insertion of the posterior tibial tendon (PTT) using MR imaging with anatomic and histologic correlation.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1-To describe the complex anatomic insertions of the PTT. 2-To demonstrate MR imaging aspects of these insertions using cadaveric specimens. 3-To correlate MR imaging findings with those derived from histologic study. 4-To identify the distal components of the PTT and analyze those normal aspects of tendinous insertion that can be misinterpreted as lesions.

SUMMARY

MR imaging correlated with anatomic and histologic studies enabled detailed analysis of the complex insertions of the PTT as well as a better understanding of those features that can simulate a lesion. This report may help radiologists to detect abnormal findings in routine MR imaging examinations that can be related to disfunction of the PTT.
