PURPOSE/AIM

To describe the step-by-step procedure for hepatic artery angioplasty. To describe and depict the different lesions (or lesion combinations) that are most and least amenable to angioplasty and which lesions have a high complication rate. To describe the intra-procedural difficulties/complications and their management.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

Review of surgical anatomy (various surgical anastomoses) with illustrations and angiograms. Importance of evaluating pre-angiogram images (CE CT) prior to angiography. Review of types of hepatic artery stenoses, their prevalence and their combinations. Description and prevalence of associated arterial kinks (HAK). - Effect of HAK on complications and technical success - Angiographic differentiation between HAK and stenoses. Doppler Ultrasound response and follow-up regimen

SUMMARY

This exhibit will allow the attendee to: - Work-up a suspected case of HAS in transplants (operative report, prior imaging). - Conduct a detailed angiogram identifying type of lesions including combinations and associations. - Identify the most amenable lesions to treat with angioplasty. - Know the technical steps to a successful angioplasty. - Identify and manage intra-procedural complications. - Set up Doppler follow-up and know its limitations.
