The purpose of this exhibit is to
1)review the the normal embryology and anatomy of the epididymis
2)familiarize the reader with the normal ultrasonographic features of the different types of epididymitis and epididymo- orchitis.
3) review the complications associated with epididymitis.
4) and diagnostic pitfalls at ultrasound.

The major teaching points of this exhibit include:
1)changes in echogenicity in the epididymis with associated changes in blood flow is associated with a variety of etiologies of epididymitis.
2)both associated peri- epididymal findings and physical exam can help in the diagnosis of epididymitis.
3)pulsed duplex can help assess for complications such as impending infarction and frank infarction.
4)tumor cannot be completely excluded in some cases of chronic infectious/noninfectious epididymitis
