LEARNING OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this presentation are to: 1) Understand the motivation for dose optimization in pediatric projection radiography. 2) Review technical methods for dose reduction. 3) Appreciate factors that impose a lower limit on dose. 4) Examine adjustments of digital image processing required for low-dose examinations. 5) Consider special examinations particular to the pediatric population. 6) Estimate the magnitude of risk in ordinary radiographic examinations of pediatric patients.
