LEARNING OBJECTIVES

To discuss the, 1)Current role of state-of-the-art imaging techniques in assessing the Cholangiocarcinoma (CC). 2)Potential role of tissue specific MR contrast agents in pre-operative staging and PET-CT in staging & screening for CC. 3)Emerging role of perfusion CT and MR for assessing treatment response to newer anti-angiogenic drugs.

ABSTRACT

Imaging manifestations of cholangiocarcinoma (CC) is extremely diverse as they differ in growth patterns and locations. Accurate detection, its characterization and determining the resectability of the tumor are the primary goals of Imaging. The up coming various novel techniques and contrast agents aid in correct diagnosis and planning appropriate management. In this exhibit we will discuss with examples the role of various imaging tools such as computed tomograhphy (CT), Endoscopic retrograde cholagio pancreatography (ERCP), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and Positron emission tomography (PET) or hybrid PET/CT in imaging CC. We will also emphasize the advanced techniques such as functional imaging and liver specific MR contrast agents in the diagnosis of CC.
