To evaluate the pancreatic duct with MRCP after administration of orange-lemon-juice.
Single-shot RARE heavily T2-weighted dynamic magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) was performed before and after oral orange-lemon-juice in 21 volunteers who did not have pancreatic diseases (group 1) and 10 patients who had pancreaticobiliary diseases (group 2). Image analysis included the visualization and diameter of the pancreatic duct, the best time of visualization of the pancreatic duct, and the most prominent time of overlap of fluid in the gastrointestinal tract.
After oral orange-lemon-juice, the best visualization of the main pancreatic duct in the head, body, tail, accessory pancreatic duct, and branch ducts was achieved in 53.44 minutes±13.38 (SD), 54.17minutes±13.75, 60.83minutes±19.57, 52.50minutes±10.61, and 52.50minutes±15.73, respectively. Improvement in the delineation of the pancreatic duct in the head (74.19% [before] vs. 100% [after]), body (74.19% vs. 96.77%), tail (16.13% vs. 48.39%), accessory pancreatic duct (0% vs. 19.35%), and branch ducts (6.45% vs. 29.03%) was achieved. The mean delay to the most prominent overlap of fluid in the gastrointestinal tract and the pancreatic duct was 43.88 minutes±17.12. There was no significant difference between group 1 and group 2.
The visualization of pancreatic duct is significantly improved with MRCP after orange-lemon-juice administration, and the best time of visualization of the pancreatic duct is achieved in 60 minutes after oral orange-lemon-juice.
