The viewer will become familiar with new devices coming into more frequent use. This will provide an understanding of their benefit to the patient and orthopedic surgeon as well as associated complications that should be evaulated for when interrupting post-operative images.
It is important to be familiar with the orthopaedic hardware and techniques used by the othopaedic surgeon. The field of orthopaedic surgery is ever adapting with new devices and techniques. Therefore knowledge of novel devices and approaches is essential when evaluating post-operative images for complications such as failure, loosening and infection. Understanding the hardware and its application provides insight into the orthopaedic surgeon’s intent.
The exhibit will discuss conventional ideas implemented with new twists such as trochanteric nailing, coated external fixator pins, fixed angle plating, PMMA/ATB intramedullary nails, bone stimulators, and bone graft substitutes. Novel concepts such as percutaneous plating, limited ORIF, biosorbable implants, fracture healing modulation, and periarticular plating will be described. Radical approaches of distraction osteogenesis over IM nailing, percutaneous pelvic & acetabulum and inflatable IM nailing will also be addressed.
