LEARNING OBJECTIVES

To use informatics tools to help educate clinical informaticians. To identify opportunities to help accelerate the clinical adoption of open standards. To understand the value of community driven software development models.

ABSTRACT

The goal of OpenRad is provide a community portal to bring together clinical practitioners of informatics and researchers to share and build tools that help solve today’s problems in medical imaging informatics. There are many open source projects readily available on the Internet that solve problems within radiology informatics. There exist programs from DICOM archives to viewing workstations. It can be a real challenge to find the right tool to solve your particular problems that will work in your environment. It is also hard to know if a project is an active project being developed upon or not. OpenRad provides an evolving decision support tool to help people find the right project for their problem with a comprehensive list of open source projects. OpenRad uses the IHE framework as a classification guide of projects.OpenRad also has a virtual coffee break room to stimulate discussion about what projects are most useful and connect volunteers with worthwhile projects.
