LEARNING OBJECTIVES

To learn how magnetic resonance imaging can be used to make specific diagnosis of certain musculoskeletal soft tissue tumors and tumor-like lesionsTo learn the imaging findings of the musculoskeletal soft tissue tumors and tumor-like lesions that can be accurately diagnosed with MRI

ABSTRACT

The evaluation of musculoskeletal soft tissue tumors represents a challenge in which findings of multiple imaging modalities are sometimes combined in order to arrive to the correct diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging plays a central role in the imaging evaluation of these tumors and many times demonstrates specific findings for certain diagnoses. On this exhibit we illustrate how MRI can be used to make specific diagnosis of many fatty, fibrous, vascular, synovial and neural tumors, as well as of many tumor-like lesions. The imaging findings that are specific for each tumor are described, sometimes correlated with the patient’s age and tumor location. A detailed discussion of each tumor is also available. Pathologic correlation is provided.
