1. To understand the diverse causes of left lower quadrant abdominal pain.2. To illustrate the high resolution sonographic findings of the various diseases causing left lower quadrant abdominal pain.
Many diverse diseases causes right lower abdominal pain and these are relatively well known. But left lower quadrant(LLQ) abdominal pain is not well understood and sometimes perplexing to the radiologists. Sonography is a rapid, efficient diagnostic tool in the evaluation of these diverse diseases causing LLQ abdominal pain. In addition to classical urinary stone and gynecologic diseases, diverse bowel and omental lesions are also met. Bowel and omental lesions are sigmoid colon diverticulitis, sigmoid colon cancer and polyp, acute appendicitis in patient with appendix located in left lower quadrant abdomen due to rotation anomaly, fecal impaction of the sigmoid colon in pediatric population and primary epiploic appendagitis. Gynecologic causes are pelvic inflammatory diesease, tuboovarian abscess, left ovarian torsion. Urinary causes are left ureter stone.
