Three-dimensional ultrasound is increasing in use both for research and clinical applications. Such information can provide more complete anatomic information and provide views not possible with the single-plane acquisitions. The session will present an overview of 3D US instrumentation, methods of image acquisition and display, and various reconstruction algorithms. Current and potential application of the technology and its relative merits compared to contemporary 2D US will be discussed.
