PURPOSE/AIM

Postpartum hemorrhage is a known life threatening complication of both vaginal and cesarean deliveries, being the second leading single cause of maternal mortality in the world. The purpose of this exhibit is to overview the indications, role & techniques for endovascular techniques in management of postpartum bleeding.

CONTENT ORGANIZATION

1. Illustrate the etiologies and patho-physiology of post-partum hemorrhage 2. Describe the clinical findings and treatment options 3.Evaluate the angiographic findings 4. Explain the role and techniques of transcatheter interventions 5. Review the long-term results of endovascular techniques described in the literature

SUMMARY

Transcatheter arterial embolization of the uterine arteries in patients with post-partum hemorrhage as an alternative to hysterectomy is a minimally invasive treatment. Endovascular techniques are safe and effective alternatives to stop the bleeding with fewer risks to the patient with preservation of fertility, as compared to hysterectomy.
